Oversized. Black. Blazer. I lived in it last year.

I picked it up in SoHo, New York at The Frankie Shop. It’s one piece that has most definitely earned the compliments it has received, because I have worn it practically every day since purchase. Don’t get me wrong - I absolutely adore it and I knew that I was in fact in love with this item of clothing when it graced my back standing in the middle of a crowded store mid October with a delightful sales assistant. And who doesn’t like a practical purchase. A black blazer? It’ll go with everything.

Last year I had a few realisations about my own personal style. It was the over-wearing of this blazer that prompted me to write this article.

Let’s dive into what I’ve learnt about how I dress and why it’s important for me:

Going abroad is the perfect time to test new wardrobe colours

I was lucky enough to rediscover my love of Portugal last year and with that came along a discovery of colours that I hadn’t included in my wardrobe much. Until this holiday. I can say with my entire chest that I planned my outfits to the point I gave myself a celebrity-style ‘fitting’ before the clothing and accessories entered my case. And the result? I felt confident and you can see it in the images I’m including below. Colours and textures that I’m now including in my wardrobe are yellow. Brown. Sequins. Suede. And most importantly? Cream.

I think when you grow up as a UK size 14, it’s suggested that you shouldn’t wear bright colours - or any colour that draws attention to you or accentuates your size. That cream blazer featured below has been a constant in my wardrobe. Autumn to winter - and I can’t wait to wear it through spring and summer too.
